The Way We Practice Mindfulness Meditation

Written by Roberta O'Dea on .

Mindfulness Meditation the way we practice it at Seddon Hypnotherapy Centre is sitting with the body and initially focussing on the breath. And as you do that oftentimes the thinking mind will interrupt with thoughts. Under normal circumstances and initially when you engage in mindfulness you may attach to the thoughts that come up…..label them…..judge them…….get into the story of the thoughts……..real or imagined……….

However in a mindfulness meditation you would notice the thought………allow it to be there……..without attaching to it…………….just noticing it until it goes away………..and then go back to the body……..back to the breath………
This part of the meditation can sometimes persist for quite some time, particularly when you begin your practice…………the conscious mind is used to running the show and getting your attention…………. But as you allow thoughts to be there without label or judgement or getting into the story………….just observing them……..eventually the thoughts go and you get some space………………. And in that space is a deep sense of peace…………….

In a body mindfulness meditation……….. the person focuses initially on the breath and then scanning the body from head to toe………..noticing and sensations, hot, cold or numbness- pins and needles- itches-muscle spasms- feelings- emotions-
Trauma is often stored in the body and when you pay attention to what the body is telling you…….. you give it permission to release the trauma which can happen via yawning, itching, muscle spasms etc- and as you release this body trauma through mindful attention it becomes easier to get to those deeper places inside the body where that deep peace resides………… a mindfulness meditation is a respectful way of spending time with your body…….. and really paying attention to any tension inside your body and being present to it -which then allows your body to release that tension or tightness or pain so that eventually the body is free…………..the body balances…………..feels better………….more at tranquil and at peace……….if you would like to join us you are most welcome………we meet at 7pm on Thursday……….. and the session goes for just over an hour.
